Admiral Steve Koehler, commander of the United States Pacific Fleet, will arrive in Dhaka on August 4 for a three-day official visit running through August 6, according to a statement attributed to US Embassy Dhaka acting spokesperson Mara Bird.

During his stay in Bangladesh, Admiral Steve Koehler is scheduled to hold high-level talks with senior Bangladeshi leaders to review the long-standing bilateral defense alliance and discuss avenues to broaden cooperation in key fields such as maritime safety, disaster relief operations, professional military training, and humanitarian support.

Raised in a naval family, Steve Koehler earned his Bachelor of Science in Physics from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1986, where he received his commission via the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps.

After qualifying as a naval aviator in March 1989, Steve Koehler logged over 3,900 flight hours across F-14 Tomcat and F-18 Super Hornet aircraft, completing 600 aircraft carrier landings.

His educational credentials include a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College, alongside certifications from the Joint Staff College and the Navy Nuclear Power Program.

Throughout his operational sea deployments, Steve Koehler flew with Fighter Squadrons 211 and 41, served as executive officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, and held command roles with Fighter Squadron 143, amphibious assault ship USS Bataan, aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, and Carrier Strike Group Nine.

His combat and operational assignments spanned Operations Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Iraqi Freedom, Inherent Resolve, Freedom’s Sentinel, Deliberate Guard, and Unified Protector across the Middle East, Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Libya.

Additionally, Steve Koehler participated in disaster relief missions under Operation Unified Response in Haiti and spearheaded peer competition operations in the East and South China Seas.

His shore tours include serving as an instructor pilot with Fighter Squadron 101, placement officer at the Bureau of Naval Personnel, and chief of staff for Joint Task Force Horn of Africa in Djibouti.

As a flag officer, Steve Koehler has held executive leadership positions as director of Fleet Training at US Fleet Forces Command, director for Operations at US Indo-Pacific Command, deputy commander of US Pacific Fleet, commander of US 3rd Fleet, and director for Strategy, Plans and Policy on the Joint Staff.

Steve Koehler assumed his present role as commander of the US Pacific Fleet on April 4, 2024.
