The Election Commission (EC) has officially declared the timetable for the upcoming presidential election, setting August 20 as the date for voting.

EC Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed disclosed the details of the official schedule during a briefing held at the Election Commission Bhaban located in Agargaon, Dhaka.

As outlined in the schedule, prospective candidates must submit their nomination papers to the office of the Chief Election Commissioner on August 13 between 10 am and 4 pm.

The verification and scrutiny of the submitted nomination documents will take place at the EC Bhaban on August 16 starting at 10 am, while the deadline for withdrawing candidature has been set for August 18 up to 4 pm.

Voting will subsequently take place inside the session hall of the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) on August 20 from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Addressing members of the press during the announcement, EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed said, "In accordance with Section 5(3) of the Presidential Election Act, 1991, I am announcing this schedule for the presidential election after discussions with the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad."

He further confirmed that the official voter list required for the presidential balloting has already been compiled, adding that all remaining administrative formalities will be finalized ahead of election day.
