Nomination papers have been obtained on behalf of candidates representing the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami for the upcoming Thakurgaon-1 constituency by-poll.

BNP district treasurer Md Nur-e-Shahadat Swajon secured the nomination paper for party candidate Mirza Faisal Amin on September 20.

The following day, Jamaat district assistant secretary Principal Kafil Uddin Ahmad collected the nomination paper on behalf of Md Delawar Hossain, the Jamaat candidate backed by the 11-party alliance.

District Election Officer Kamrul Islam confirmed the collection of nomination documents on Thursday afternoon, noting that nomination papers have thus far been collected on behalf of two contenders while adding that "The deadline for submitting nomination papers is 4pm on September 27."

Speaking to a local media, Nur-e-Shahadat Swajon expressed that the BNP aims to connect with voters through a peaceful and democratic electoral exercise, conveying optimism that citizens will have the opportunity to select their preferred choices.

The by-election for Thakurgaon-1, which encompasses Thakurgaon Sadar, Ruhia, and Bhulli upazilas, is slated for October 29.
