A fifth-grade student’s heartfelt appeal for a musical instrument turned into a dream come true when Prime Minister Tarique Rahman hosted the young singer at his Bangladesh Secretariat office and presented her with a harmonium.

The young talent, Anushree Roy, a student at Purba Nabonidas Government Primary School in Gangachara upazila of Rangpur, had secured first place in patriotic song and third place in Nazrul Sangeet at the National Primary Education Medal 2026 competition.

During the award ceremony last month, she handed a written letter to a Prime Minister's official detailing her passion for music, her family’s financial inability to buy an instrument, and her desire to meet the premier.

Upon reading the note, Tarique Rahman invited Anushree and her parents to the Prime Minister's Office, according to PM's Press Secretary Suzauddhowla Sujan Mahmud.

During the audience, the Prime Minister warmly conversed with the young artist, inquired about her musical pursuits, encouraged her to practice consistently, and handed over the requested harmonium.

Overflowing with joy after the interaction, where she also performed a patriotic song for the premier, Anushree said, "I never imagined that the Prime Minister would read my letter and invite me for a meeting."

She explained that she desperately needed a harmonium to continue her practice but her family could not afford it, adding, "So, I wrote everything in a letter and handed it to one of the Prime Minister's officials during the award ceremony. I never thought the letter would reach him, let alone that he would read it."

She expressed her astonishment when PM's Deputy Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon contacted her family to convey the invitation, sharing that the Prime Minister affectionately spoke to her, enquired about her music practice and advised her to continue pursuing music with dedication.

Her father also became emotional during the visit, explaining that he had frequently told his daughter about the Prime Minister's humanitarian initiatives and support for ordinary citizens, which motivated her to write the letter.

He added, "Even then, we never thought the letter would actually reach the Prime Minister or that he would read it. Today, we are overwhelmed with happiness."

On the same day, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman also granted an audience to Tabiul Islam Rakib, a private security guard who has been working in the capital's Kuril Bishwaroad area for the past seven months.

Hailing from the Nurullahpur Shikdar Bari area of Morelganj upazila in Bagerhat district, Rakib had posted a video on social media stating his desire to meet the premier and declaring that he would not leave Dhaka until his wish was fulfilled.

During their meeting, Rakib brought forward a longstanding public demand from his hometown residents regarding the construction of a bridge over the Panguchi River in Morelganj, emphasizing that the infrastructure project would alleviate the suffering of thousands of commuters and prevent frequent accidents during river crossings.
