Prime Minister Tarique Rahman delivered the keys of newly constructed homes on Sunday to families whose residences were destroyed by recent flash floods in Banshkhali Upazila under Chattogram district.

The Prime Minister personally distributed the house keys to beneficiaries around 1:20 pm after inspecting the flood-ravaged West Banshkhali zone within Baharchhara Union as part of his government's broader disaster rehabilitation drive.

During the visit, PM Tarique Rahman engaged directly with local residents to inquire about their welfare and current living conditions before planting a mahogany sapling in the area.

He was accompanied on the inspection by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, alongside several high-ranking state officials.

Following the site inspection, the Prime Minister joined a formal assembly titled "House Handover, Grant and Relief Materials Distribution" hosted at the Banshkhali High School and College grounds to support the rehabilitation of displaced households across Chattogram.

Under the state-sponsored recovery plan, 100 flood-affected families in Banshkhali were chosen to receive the new housing units.

Officials noted that these 100 households were previously identified for housing assistance financed entirely through government funds.

Built using reinforced cement concrete (RCC) pillars, timber, and corrugated iron sheet roofing, the two-room structures with attached toilets were specifically designed to offer greater resilience against future natural disasters.

The region experienced severe flooding starting July 7, when torrential rainfall and upstream hill runoff submerged vast swaths of low-lying and remote terrain in Banshkhali, destroying residential properties and damaging local aquaculture, including fish farms and ponds.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister visited Matarbari in Maheshkhali to review key infrastructure initiatives, including the Matarbari deep-sea port and the local coal-fired power plant.

Upon concluding his engagements in Banshkhali, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to travel to Fatikchhari to meet with Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari at the Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagar Madrasah.

He will then proceed to Hathazari to address a second flood rehabilitation gathering organized at the Hathazari Government College grounds at 5 pm.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will preside over an organizational meeting at the Radisson Blu Chattogram Bay View hotel auditorium.

After concluding his day-long tour, he is expected to board a flight from Hazrat Shah Amanat International Airport at 9:30 pm to return to Dhaka.

The trip marks PM Tarique Rahman's inaugural visit to Maheshkhali, Fatikchhari and Hathazari since assuming the office of Prime Minister.
