High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday for a courtesy call to discuss matter of mutual interest and bolster bilateral ties between the neighboring nations.

The diplomatic engagement took place around 11 am at the Prime Minister’s Office located inside the Secretariat, according to Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Zahidul Islam Rony.

Providing details on the discussion, Zahidul Islam stated, "It was a courtesy meeting. They discussed bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual interest."

The official meeting marked the Indian High Commissioner’s inaugural audience with PM Tarique Rahman since assuming his diplomatic posting.

The high-level talks were also attended by Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman alongside the Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir.

India designated Dinesh Trivedi—a seasoned politician from West Bengal who previously served as the nation's railway minister and health minister—as its 16th High Commissioner to Bangladesh back in April, succeeding former envoy Pranay Kumar Verma.

He officially took charge of the high commission after presenting his letter of credence to former President Mohammed Shahabuddin on June 25.

Since initiating his diplomatic mission in Dhaka, Dinesh Trivedi has actively engaged with key government figures, having previously met with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed to strengthen bilateral channels.
