Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday extended an invitation to American enterprises to invest in Bangladesh with confidence and a long-term perspective, expressing his administration’s goal to forge a resilient economic partnership with the United States centered on trade, capital, innovation, and employment generation.

Speaking during a meeting at the Bangladesh Secretariat with a 50-member delegation from the US-Bangladesh Business Council, the Prime Minister articulated the core objective of his administration.

“Our objective is not simply to attract foreign direct investment but to build a durable and mutually beneficial economic partnership. This will strengthen ties between Bangladesh and the United States,” he said.

The high-level US visiting delegation was co-led by Oliver Simpson, Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Accelerate Energy, alongside Ambassador (Retd) Atul Keshap, President of the US-Bangladesh Business Council and Senior Vice President for South Asia at the US Chamber of Commerce.

Addressing the business leaders, Prime Minister encouraged American firms to enter and broaden their operations across key sectors, including energy, logistics, infrastructure, digital services, technology, finance, healthcare, manufacturing, and agriculture.

“Our six-month-old, forward-looking government wants American companies to invest and expand in Bangladesh. We welcome your capital, technology, expertise, and global experience,” he stated.

Emphasizing economic reforms, the Prime Minister highlighted his government's commitment to implementing liberal fiscal strategies, deregulation, and business-friendly budgetary frameworks to cultivate a predictable market environment.

“Our vision is to build a rules-based, globally connected economy that is driven by the private sector. We want American businesses to be partners in this transformation,” he noted.

To achieve these goals, the government is taking active steps to enhance investor safeguards, streamline regulatory procedures, overhaul tax and VAT administration, remove bureaucratic obstacles, enable seamless profit repatriation, and digitize public service delivery.

Concurrently, priority is being placed on upgrading ports, transport logistics, and infrastructure, alongside fortifying energy security by fostering investments in modern technologies and renewable energy sources.

Framing his administration as an open partner to commercial ventures, the Prime Minister urged foreign investors to engage freely.

“Please consider our entire government as your partner. We are here to listen, respond, and facilitate,” PM Tarique Rahman said.

He added that Bangladesh remains open to diverse modes of engagement, including public-private partnerships, direct investments, consultancy services, and joint ventures, with a broader view to boosting two-way commercial flow.

Outlining the country's long-term trajectory, PM Tarique Rahman revealed that the administration has set an ambitious goal to transform Bangladesh into a USD 1 trillion economy by 2034.

To achieve this, the nation is positioning itself as a regional manufacturing and investment hub by introducing focused incentives for high-priority sectors alongside robust investments in workforce skills and technological infrastructure.

He reiterated that a strong economic framework with Washington would drive job growth and deepen bilateral bonds.

“I invite you to invest with confidence and build for the long term. Let us create jobs, expand trade and investment, and ensure your companies’ thriving presence. Let us grow together and build a prosperous, competitive, and globally connected Bangladesh,” PM Tarique Rahman told the attendees.

Reflecting on his personal background, the Prime Minister recalled that he initially began his career as a entrepreneur before transitioning into public life, giving him direct insight into the necessary policies and market conditions required for businesses to flourish.

Assuring the US delegation of complete institutional support, he concluded: “My message today is simple,” confirming that his administration stands fully prepared to provide every facility needed to advance their commercial ventures in Bangladesh.
