Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday reaffirmed his administration's dedication to strengthening mathematics learning nationwide, promising sustained institutional assistance to bring Mathematics Olympiad activities directly to primary and secondary schools at the grassroots level.

“We will provide whatever support is required from the government in the future to further expand mathematics practice and Mathematics Olympiad activities in the country,” said the Prime Minister.

In line with this commitment, he granted immediate approval to establish a specialized fund for primary and secondary Olympiad initiatives and endorsed the integration of interactive, practical mathematics in school classrooms.

According to Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Shahadat Shadhin, the assurances were made during a courtesy meeting held at the Secretariat's Cabinet Division, where Bangladeshi medalists from the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) and European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) met with the Prime Minister.

The young scholars greeted the Prime Minister and recounted their journeys and successes in international arenas, drawing praise and well-wishes for their upcoming academic pursuits from the head of government.

Delegates from the Bangladesh Girls' Mathematical Foundation appealed for state backing to deepen the reach and efficiency of mathematical events at community levels, receiving prompt assurances of comprehensive state assistance.

Addressing a recommendation to set up a permanent financial mechanism for school-based Olympiad outreach, the Prime Minister authorized funding allocation via the Ministry of Education.

He similarly endorsed a initiative from the Bangladesh Mathematical Olympiad Committee (BdMO) aimed at embedding practical, activity-based mathematics methods into basic education.

Furthermore, attendees presented a proposal to launch a standardized teacher evaluation framework for mathematics, structured similarly to the IELTS test used for measuring English proficiency.

The Prime Minister pledged to evaluate the suggestion with significant priority.

The session was attended by Education and Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Adviser on Education and Primary and Mass Education alongside PMO Spokesperson Mahdi Amin, IMO national coach Mahbubul Alam Majumder, Bangladesh Girls' Mathematical Foundation Chair Professor Sadia Hamid Kazi, and BdMO member Md Abdul Hakim Khan.

The student delegation comprised IMO silver medalist Md Raihan Siddiqui (Chattogram College), dual IMO and EGMO bronze winner Monami Zaman (Viqarunnisa Noon School and College), and IMO bronze medalists Jawad Hamim Chowdhury (Dhaka Imperial College), Mohammad Marzuk Rahman (Cantonment English School and College), Tahsin Khan (Ananda Mohan College), and M. Jamiul Hossain (RAJUK Uttara Model School and College), alongside EGMO bronze winner Saji Sehnai (RAJUK Uttara Model School and College).
