Students who failed the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations will be given an opportunity to re-sit the exams within the next one to two months, Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon stated on Saturday.
The minister noted that students who failed in one or more subjects would be permitted to sit for examinations solely in the specific subjects they failed.
This year, the overall pass rate in the HSC and equivalent examinations stood at 52.12%, indicating that nearly half of the examinees failed.
Out of the 1,240,798 students who appeared for the examinations across 11 education boards, 646,685 passed while 594,113 failed.
An examination of the outcomes reveals that the pass rate this year is the lowest since 2004, when 47.74 percent of examinees passed.
This year’s HSC and equivalent examinations commenced on July 2. However, owing to flooding, the written examinations in several subjects under the Chattogram Education Board could not be conducted as scheduled.
The deferred examinations were subsequently conducted, with the board’s written examinations concluding on September 9.
