Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam on Tuesday afternoon inaugurated the "Pink Bus" service—a dedicated, all-female public transport initiative—at the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Tejgaon bus depot to provide safer and more comfortable transit for women.

Operated exclusively by female drivers and conductors, the specialized buses will run on an on-demand basis starting Tuesday afternoon, with regular scheduled operations across designated routes commencing Wednesday, according to the ministry.

The initial rollout features a fleet of 10 buses servicing major corridors across Dhaka, alongside four additional units assigned outside the capital, including two in Bogura and two in Chattogram.

BRTC authorities confirmed that vehicle numbers will expand dynamically in response to passenger volume and evolving requirements.

In the capital, the service will cover key routes including New Market (Coca-Cola)–Motijheel, Taltala–Motijheel, Demra Staff Quarter–Motijheel, Mirpur-10–Motijheel, Mirpur-12–Motijheel, Abdullahpur-Quarter–GPO, Mirpur–Motijheel, and Mohammadpur–Motijheel.

A specialized service will also operate along the Gazipur–Airport corridor.

Specifically, the New Market-bound bus running from Motijheel will travel through Coca-Cola, New Bazar, Badda, Rampura, Malibagh, Kakrail, Paltan, and Gulistan before reaching Motijheel.

Services departing from Mirpur, Mohammadpur, Demra, and Abdullahpur will connect commuters directly to major hubs across the capital.

Outside Dhaka, two dedicated buses will serve the Sherpur–Matidali route in Bogura, while another two will run along the Kalurghat–Patenga line in Chattogram.

According to BRTC, introducing this women-led public transit system fulfills a key pledge from the government's election manifesto, aiming to establish a secure, convenient, and reliable travel environment for female passengers.
