
Newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir formally began his first day of official duties at Bangabhaban on Sunday after assuming charge of the country’s highest constitutional office, receiving his first ceremonial salute as part of the formal welcome.
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir arrived at Bangabhaban at 11 am, where a smartly dressed contingent from the Bangladesh Police’s mounted unit received him and escorted him to the Credential Field.
At the Credential Field, a smartly turned-out contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) accorded President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir a guard of honour.
A combined military band comprising personnel from the Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Air Force played a welcome tune during the ceremonial reception.
Following the guard of honour, several senior officials formally welcomed President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and his family members with floral bouquets at the Octagonal of Bangabhaban.
Those who received President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir included President’s Military Secretary Major General A S M Bahauddin, Public Division Secretary AJM Salahuddin Nagari, Press Secretary Sarwar Alam and President Guard Regiment Commander Brigadier General Ghulam Ariqul Alam.
After completing the formal reception, President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir proceeded to his executive office at Bangabhaban, where he signed official documents, marking the beginning of his official responsibilities as president.
