Chinese President Xi Jinping has congratulated Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on assuming office as Bangladesh’s 23rd President, expressing Beijing’s willingness to work with Dhaka to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries.

In a congratulatory message, Xi Jinping said China and Bangladesh are friendly neighbours with a long history of close ties, adding that their bilateral relationship has remained resilient despite changes in the international situation.

Recalling the 51 years of diplomatic relations between China and Bangladesh, Xi Jinping said the two countries have consistently upheld mutual respect and equality in their dealings.

He said China and Bangladesh have supported each other on issues concerning their respective core interests and major concerns, while working together in pursuing their respective development and modernisation paths.

Xi Jinping expressed his readiness to work with President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to preserve and advance the traditional friendship between the two countries and further strengthen bilateral relations.

The Chinese President also called for enhanced strategic communication between Beijing and Dhaka and greater high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Xi Jinping emphasised the importance of expanding exchanges and cooperation across a wide range of sectors, saying such efforts would help advance the development of a China-Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era.

He expressed hope that cooperation between the two countries would continue to deepen, generate tangible results and create greater benefits for the peoples of China and Bangladesh.

The message comes as Bangladesh begins a new presidential tenure under Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, with China signalling its willingness to further develop bilateral ties through political communication, economic cooperation and broader people-to-people exchanges.
