Bangladesh is evaluating the circumstances surrounding the projected Mecca Pact prior to determining whether to enter the coalition, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam stated here on Tuesday.

"We are assessing the situation regarding participation in the Mecca Pact. Bangladesh’s interests will be considered first before joining the alliance," Shama conveyed to reporters at the Foreign Ministry this morning.

She stated that Bangladesh’s national interest would serve as the primary consideration in formulating any choice concerning engagement in the proposed bloc.

She nevertheless mentioned that Dhaka has not yet obtained any official invitation to enter the proposed agreement.

Her comments surfaced amid ongoing deliberations concerning the proposed coalition comprising Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey, alongside Bangladesh's potential involvement in it.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir had previously remarked that Bangladesh regarded the proposed pact favorably and maintained an interest in the venture.

On Sunday, Humaiun Kobir expressed to reporters at the foreign ministry following a courtesy call by Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Dr. Abdullah Zafer bin Abiyah that Bangladesh perceives no hazard in entering the Mecca Defence Pact and that it would not constrain Bangladesh's interactions with alternative allies.

"This is a unique pact that, presenting new opportunities," he stated to reporters.

He had additionally noted that "Mecca is in the heart of Bangladesh," whilst clarifying Dhaka’s receptive stance toward the initiative.

The Mecca Joint Defence Agreement, or the 'Mecca Pact', was formally executed on August 7, 2026, with Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Turkey functioning as its signatories thus far.
