If the people of Bangladesh are determined to rebuild the nation, no one can hold them back, said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
"I want to ask for your help. To my knowledge, the number of scouts in Bangladesh is around 2.3 million, DNCC members number 22,000, and students in educational institutions total nearly 40 million. Now you tell me, if so many of us want to rebuild the country, can anyone stop us? No, they cannot," he said.
The Prime Minister made these remarks while addressing the inauguration ceremony of the nationwide anti-dengue and cleanliness campaign-2026 as the chief guest at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday morning (September 12).
"Now you must take responsibility for how to build the country. We must build the country because we are going to live here," he added.
Stating that such a vast youth force can achieve monumental change, the Prime Minister noted that the youth demonstrated their capacity to transform society to the entire world on August 5, 2024. "The youth initiated that change. Therefore, let us try to solve the dengue problem over the next three months. We might not achieve 100 percent success, but we can reach 80 percent," he said.
Highlighting the root causes of mosquito breeding, he said, "We all know why dengue occurs—discarded broken items and earthen pots left in various places collect water, breeding Aedes mosquitoes. If we all try together, we can bring about change in the country. All of us present here on this field, and those connected online from various districts—if we eat tissues and drink water and throw the bottles on the ground, will anyone say anything to us? They won't."
"However, how will it look in our own eyes? When this garbage accumulates and grows into a massive pile, it breeds germs. You might think, 'What does it matter to me? I live far away.' But someone close to you or a loved one will fall sick. Therefore, let us keep ourselves and our families healthy. Let us keep our society healthy. Let us keep the country healthy."
The Prime Minister emphasized that the task is not difficult. "It might cause you a little trouble today. If we dedicate just one hour every week to cleaning our homes, educational institutions, or workplaces, we will certainly be able to bring about rapid change."
He also urged citizens to discourage littering:
"Let us discourage those who scatter garbage and tell them, 'Do not litter here and there.'"
"The youth showed us how to change the country in 2024. Change has happened. I call upon the youth: let us now rebuild the state and the country," the Prime Minister concluded.
