Prime Minister Tarique Rahman urged American energy giant Chevron on Sunday to expand its capital outlays toward exploring fresh natural gas deposits in tandem with upgrading current production sites, a strategic move aimed at bolstering national energy security and satisfying escalating domestic power consumption.
The appeal was extended during a diplomatic courtesy visit when a high-level corporate delegation representing Chevron—headed by Javier La Rosa, President of Base Assets and Emerging Countries (BAEC)—met with the Prime Minister at his official chambers within the Bangladesh Secretariat.
Briefing the media following the conference, Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Shahadat Shadhin noted that discussions centered squarely on Chevron’s financial commitments to the nation's energy infrastructure, with particular emphasis placed on scaling up investments in mature, aging gas fields alongside launching new exploratory ventures.
The high-level talks were attended by Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Dr Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, State Minister for Power and Energy Aninda Islam Amit, Chevron Bangladesh President and Managing Director Shu Xiong, alongside other senior government and corporate delegates.
