A three-member delegation of French senators convened with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at her office on Sunday to explore avenues for deepening bilateral political collaboration between Bangladesh and France.
The discussions encompassed a broad spectrum of bilateral and multilateral topics of mutual interest.
The visiting delegation comprises Senators Guillaume Chevrollier, Pierre-Alain Roiron and Olivier Henno, who touched down in Dhaka on Saturday night to embark on a three-day official diplomatic mission.
The senators were accompanied during the ministerial meeting by French Ambassador to Bangladesh Jean-Marc Séré-Charlet and Christian Bec, head of the political wing at the French Embassy.
According to a statement released by the French Embassy in Dhaka, the delegates represent the French-Southeast Asia and Bangladesh Senate Friendship Group, marking this journey as especially significant as the inaugural political-level delegation from France since the installation of Bangladesh's newly democratically elected administration.
During their stay, the dignitaries will confer on ways to consolidate parliamentary and political relations, share strategic viewpoints with domestic counterparts, and identify emerging sectors for bilateral cooperation.
The Senate acts as the upper legislative house of the French Parliament, operating alongside the National Assembly.
The French lawmakers are lined up to hold formal talks with Parliamentary Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad in addition to meeting various national stakeholders.
Their itinerary further features excursions to sites tied to French development initiatives, local museums, and gatherings with members of the expatriate French community residing in Dhaka, alongside interactions with prominent business representatives.
