Bangladesh urged Bhutanese backing to reactivate SAARC for regional welfare during Bhutanese Prime Minister Dasho Tshering Tobgay's one-hour VVIP transit stopover at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Friday.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir greeted the visiting premier, conveying warm compliments from Bangladesh's Prime Minister.

Invoking Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's blueprint for regional prosperity, the Bangladeshi side urged Bhutanese cooperation in reviving the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC).

The ministers additionally signaled Dhaka's readiness to supply professional, skilled, and semi-skilled workforce contributions toward developing Bhutan’s Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC).

Discussions also reviewed mutual bilateral priorities, celebrating historic ties rooted in Bhutan becoming the inaugural nation to recognize Bangladesh in 1971.

Participants included Bhutan's Ambassador to Bangladesh and senior foreign ministry officials ahead of Tobgay's onward charter flight to Germany.
