Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to visit Parshuram upazila in Feni on October 1 to officially inaugurate the first phase of the Muhuri-Kuhua Flood Control, Drainage, and Irrigation Project, involving an estimated cost of BDT1,542 crore.

Initially scheduled for September 17, the Prime Minister's visit was postponed and later rescheduled for Wednesday, October 1.

The project was officially approved on June 16 during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) at a cost of BDT1,542.16 crore.

The initiative includes re-excavation of rivers and water reservoirs, rehabilitation of flood control embankments, riverbank protection, and renovation of irrigation infrastructure.

To review preparations for the visit, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad inspected Feni on the morning of September 28. During his visit, he toured the Kheyaghat area in Parshuram, the Muhuri riverbank, and the proposed public rally site.

Itinerary and Key Events
According to the district administration, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the project on the banks of the Muhuri River in the Ghatghar area of Parshuram and subsequently address a public rally.

Following the event, he will travel to Fulgazi to participate in several programs, including tree plantation at Khaleda Zia Women's College.

Other key highlights of the visit include:

Solar Power Inauguration: Launching solar power panels with a total capacity of 962.5 kilowatts installed across government offices in Parshuram, Fulgazi, and Chagalnaiya upazilas.

Community Welfare Programs: Participating in a joint-ministry program at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground to distribute family cards, allowances for imams and priests, farmer cards, and financial aid for underprivileged students and vulnerable individuals.

Delegations: Meeting with local party leaders, activists, and civil society representatives.

Security and Preparations
To ensure robust security, the event venues have been divided into three zones: Red, Yellow, and White. More than 2,000 police personnel will be deployed across Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas.

District Commissioner Mohammad Mahbubul Karim briefed media on the security arrangements during a meeting at the conference room of the DC office on September 27.

Additional District Commissioner (General) Mohammad Al Amin Sarkar stated that an impenetrable security blanket has been arranged.

Alongside the Special Security Force (SSF), members of the police, Special Response Battalion (SRB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Coast Guard, and other law enforcement agencies will be on duty.

While the Prime Minister is expected to travel to Parshuram by road according to the tentative schedule, a final decision regarding his return journey is yet to be finalized.

Local Infrastructure and Public Expectations
Preparations on the ground are nearing completion. A temporary helipad is being constructed at the Parshuram Pilot High School ground, while construction of the stage, inaugural plaque site, and other essential infrastructure on the Muhuri riverbank is in its final stages.

To ensure public comfort, the Department of Public Health Engineering is installing water tanks, portable toilets, and other sanitation measures, along with continuous cleanup drives.

Furthermore, the Roads and Highways Department is repairing key sections of the Feni-Parshuram main road and areas surrounding the Parshuram-Subar Bazar road, while beautification efforts are underway at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground.

Meanwhile, local residents are hopeful that the government will take decisive and effective steps to provide a permanent solution to annual flooding and river erosion, establish a medical college and public university in Feni, construct an underpass at Lalpul, create employment opportunities, and further develop the district's overall infrastructure.
