Outgoing Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah met Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar in New Delhi on Sunday to deliberate on topics of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, Dr S Jaishankar posted from his verified social media account, "Pleased to receive Bangladesh High Commissioner Riaz Hamidullah for a farewell call. Appreciate his contribution and wish him all the best in future endeavours."
Reflecting on his eighteen-month tenure as Bangladesh's envoy to India, Hamidullah remarked that he strove to quietly bolster bilateral relations grounded in mutual trust, dignity and shared benefits.
He added that rather than relying solely on conventional diplomatic channels, he sought to connect directly with the hearts of the people.
Meanwhile, speaking at a session titled "Power and Prudence: Managing Great-Power Competition without Conflict" during the ongoing Bay of Bengal Conversation in Dhaka on Saturday, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi emphasized that open dialogue, mutual respect and trust are essential for resolving bilateral matters, asserting that every issue between the neighboring nations possesses a resolution.
"There's no point hiding the issues, and there's no point not talking about the issues," Dinesh Trivedi stated while responding to queries.
He stressed that both countries must address all pending matters—including water-sharing, trade, culture, sports, communication, and transportation—through appropriate platforms.
"In a democracy, the dialogue has to be there at the proper forum. And the dialogue has to be a continuous dialogue," Dinesh Trivedi affirmed, acknowledging that while engagement might be slow, it has never ceased.
"I can guarantee you, there is no stoppage of process. The process is ongoing," Dinesh Trivedi said, adding reassuringly, "Believe me, there has to be a solution, and there will be a solution."
