
A high-level delegation from Toyota Tsusho Corporation, led by Vice Chairman Ichiro Kashitani, paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
The meeting took place on Tuesday (October 6) at the Prime Minister's Office in the Secretariat.
During the meeting, representatives of Toyota Tsusho Corporation briefed the Prime Minister on their plans to establish a vehicle manufacturing plant in Bangladesh. They expressed their keen interest in contributing to employment creation, industrial expansion, technology transfer, and the development of skilled human resources at the local level through this initiative.
The delegation discussed further expanding Toyota's operations in Bangladesh, investment prospects, and long-term business plans with the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister welcomed Toyota's interest in investment and operational expansion. He stated that the government is working to ensure a stable, competitive, and investment-friendly environment for both domestic and foreign investors. He also noted that the government is committed to providing necessary policy support, infrastructural facilities, and other incentives for foreign investors.
The Prime Minister also highlighted the potential of the waste-to-energy and renewable energy sectors in Bangladesh. He assured that the government would provide necessary cooperation and support if Toyota Tsusho Corporation shows interest in investing in these sectors.
During the meeting, the Toyota representatives shared that plans are currently underway to expand Toyota's distribution network in Bangladesh to all divisional headquarters across the country. This initiative aims to make Toyota's services and operations more accessible in various regions.
Additionally, in 2027, the establishment of a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) manufacturing industry will begin under Toyota Bangladesh's initiative within an economic zone in Bangladesh, guided by the development philosophy "With Bangladesh, For Bangladesh," with full-scale production targeted by 2029.
Toyota also expressed interest in contributing to the development of human resources in Bangladesh. Specifically, the Prime Minister was briefed on Toyota's potential initiatives and interest in creating technical and vocational training opportunities for youth, fostering skill development, and building a skilled workforce tailored for future industries.
The meeting was attended by Commerce Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir; the Prime Minister's Advisor on Finance and Planning Dr. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir; State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir; the Prime Minister's Advisor on Science and Technology Rehan Asif Asad; and the Prime Minister's Special Assistant for Foreign Employment in the Asia-Pacific Region Md. Shakirul Islam Khan, along with other relevant officials.
From the Toyota Tsusho Corporation side, Mobility Division CEO Shigeru Harada, Toyota Bangladesh Limited President Premmit Singh, and other senior executives of the company were present.
