Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has delivered a strong message to enforce discipline within the party at any cost, declaring that
"there is no place for extortionists and land grabbers in the BNP."
He also warned that strict organizational action would be taken against anyone guilty of breaching party discipline.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister strictly instructed Members of Parliament (MPs) to keep the country’s overall law and order situation under control and to maintain peace and order within their respective constituencies.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman specifically urged party leaders and activists to remain vigilant in the field to ensure that the upcoming Durga Puja is celebrated peacefully and to guarantee the security of minority communities.
He issued these directives on Sunday (October 11) during a meeting of the BNP Parliamentary Party. Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman presided over the meeting held at the ruling party's conference room on the ninth floor of the Jatiya Sangshad Bhaban.
The parliamentary party meeting commenced at 6:20 PM and concluded at 9:20 PM. National Parliament Chief Whip Md. Nurul Islam Moni delivered the welcome address at the beginning.
According to meeting sources, Tarique Rahman gave a clear message to the MPs, stating, "No one is above accountability. No one is above the law. MPs must also be held accountable. Various allegations are being heard against many MPs. If MPs become disconnected from the public instead of remaining worker-friendly, the party will suffer."
During the meeting, he also inquired about the challenges and issues faced by the MPs.
Tarique Rahman issued stern warnings regarding the law and order situation, constitutional amendments, upcoming local government elections, and allegations of extortion, land grabbing, and irregularities brought against party leaders and activists.
Additionally, the meeting reviewed the progress of the special committee formed to implement the July National Charter and reform the constitution, outlining the party's official position on these matters.
Ahead of the upcoming local government polls, the Leader of the House provided preliminary guidelines on grassroots preparation, maintaining organizational unity, and candidate selection.
He explicitly noted that zero tolerance would be shown if any party activist, MP, or minister engages in any misdeeds.
Requesting anonymity, an MP stated, "The Prime Minister inquired about the progress achieved in various sectors over the past eight months since the formation of the government and asked whether there were any obstacles in implementation. He also asked about the local issues and public expectations in the MPs' respective constituencies."
Whip of the Parliament Ruhul Quddus Talukder Dulu noted that the meeting covered discussions on the country's law and order situation, local government elections, and other overall affairs.
The Prime Minister placed strong emphasis on maintaining law and order.
Discussions were also held on nominating popular and qualified candidates for the upcoming local government elections to sustain the momentum achieved in the national elections.
Member of Parliament Principal Selim Bhuiyan said that MPs spoke about various issues in their respective areas.
The Prime Minister told them to stay close to the people, work alongside them, and ensure public satisfaction. He also urged everyone in the party to work together in unity.
Generally, such parliamentary party meetings take place on the day before or the day an assembly session begins.
However, Prime Minister and Leader of the House Tarique Rahman convened this special meeting well ahead of the prospective assembly session scheduled for the second week of November.
