Prime Minister Tarique Rahman conveyed profound grief on Thursday following the passing of veteran BNP figure, former deputy minister, and five-time lawmaker Abdul Hai, characterizing him as a battle-tested champion of frontline democratic struggles.
In a sympathy message, PM Tarique noted that the death of Hai inflicts an unhealable blow to nationalist politics, praising him as a devoted statesman grounded in unshakeable democratic faith and a proven defender of nationalist ideals.
The prime minister highlighted the crucial role Abdul Hai played in fortifying and structuring the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), adding, “His contributions to uniting party leaders and activists at the grassroots and strengthening the party’s ties with the people would be remembered.”
He further emphasized that Hai served as a dependable presence on the streets throughout numerous protests against autocratic rule and fascism, observing that his uncompromising posture and efforts toward reclaiming democratic governance, securing public voting rights, and confronting tyranny will continue to motivate BNP cadres and leaders alike.
Reflecting on the magnitude of the loss, the prime minister remarked that Abdul Hai’s demise deprives the party of a seasoned, selfless, and principled guide.
Concluding his tribute, PM Tarique offered solemn prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul while extending sincere sympathies to the grieving family members, relatives, political comrades, and well-wishers, stating, “May Allah grant him Jannah.”
