Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has stated that equality, human dignity, and social justice form the core principles of every religion, with the welfare of humanity serving as a fundamental teaching across all faiths.
He stressed that alongside practicing one's own religious rights and culture, maintaining mutual respect, honor, and empathy among people is essential to upholding a peaceful society.
The Prime Minister made these remarks in a message delivered on Friday (October 16) on the occasion of Sharadiya Durga Puja.
In his message, the Prime Minister extended warm greetings to the Hindu community in Bangladesh and across the world on the occasion of Durga Puja, one of the major religious festivals of the Hindu faith.
Tarique Rahman noted that, according to Hindu belief, Goddess Durga descends from heaven to Earth for the well-being of the world, fostering the welfare of her devotees while destroying evil and nurturing creation.
He added that this pursuit of truth and beauty, alongside the destruction of evil forces, bestows a unique significance upon the Sharadiya Durga festival.
He further emphasized that people of various faiths, communities, and groups across the country are practicing and will continue to practice their respective religions with great enthusiasm and devotion.
This, he noted, represents the timeless beauty of Bangladesh's religious and social values, as well as its culture.
Through these religious, cultural, and social activities, the spirit of friendship, harmony, goodwill, and brotherhood among Bangladeshis of diverse faiths and backgrounds comes to life.
The Prime Minister remarked that following the overthrow of the autocratic regime at the cost of thousands of lives, Bangladesh has embarked on a renewed journey toward democracy, initiating a massive effort to rebuild the nation.
He reiterated his administration's commitment to establishing a welfare-oriented, secure, and humane Bangladesh for all citizens, regardless of party, opinion, religion, or caste, while wishing for a multi-dimensional society enriched by messages of harmony and goodwill.
Concluding his message, the head of government asserted that while religion belongs to individuals, the state belongs to everyone, and every citizen holds the right to security.
Addressing the Hindu community directly, he urged them to celebrate the festival across the country with joy, enthusiasm, and a complete sense of safety and confidence, reiterating his best wishes to all.
