Railway Minister Nurul Islam Sujan said, the government has taken a plan to construct a double-line rail bridge beside the existing Bangabandhu bridge over the river Jamuna to improve quality of railway service.
The minister said this while visiting Syedpur Railway Workshop in Nilphamari on Tuesday.
Nurul Islam Sujan said, the risk over Bangabandhu bridge will reduce and quality of passenger service will increase if the new rail bridge is constructed. Risk has been created over the route as rail tracks were set up at one side of the Bangabandhu bridge. If the number of train is increased then the journey will be risky. For that reason the government has taken a plan to construct a rail bridge over the river Jamuna beside the Bangabandhu bridge. Initiatives have been taken to implement it with financial support from the government of Japan.
He said, mini workshop is going to be set up and manpower will be appointed within a short period to modernize and make the Syedpur Railway Workshop operational which was established during British era.
The Railway Minister said, projects will be taken to solve manpower crisis, new bogie collection, engine purchase, rail track expansion, expansion and renovation of platforms, sanitation and safe drinking water supply.
He said, Railway is for service to the people. To transport more passengers two hundred and fifty rail coaches are being imported from abroad. Huge development activities will be done in railway sector in the next five years.
