Onion prices to be normal at the end of current month: Tipu Munshi

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, the onion market will be normal after onions from India come to the country at the end of current month.

He said this while replying questions of newsmen at the secretariat on Monday.

The commerce minister said, India may withdraw ban on onion export at the end of October. So it is hoped that the onion market will come under control very soon.

He said, when onion import was stopped from India at the same time onion supply from Myanmar was also stopped due to a religious festival. Now the problem of Myanmar has been solved. The supply will begin soon. Steps are being taken to import it from other places. The Secretary has talked to the businessmen. The problem is temporary. If supply from the dependent is stopped then there will be a problem. Onion is also sold at 55 to 60 taka in India.

Tipu Munshi said, I had conversation with Indian commerce minister. He said that he would talk to the Prime Minister to withdraw the ban on import at the end of this month. There is an election in Maharashtra on October 21. So he hopes that there will be a movement after that.

The minister also said that the government will take stern action if any businessman stocks onion by illegal means.
