Interim government legal advisor Asif Nazrul has accused past fascist regimes of using Deputy Commissioners (DCs) as instruments of public oppression. He emphasized that future administrations should harness the immense potential of the administrative cadre for public service rather than repression.
Speaking on Tuesday (February 18) after the first working session on the final day of the Deputy Commissioners' Conference, Asif Nazrul remarked, "DCs are highly knowledgeable individuals, as they are selected through competitive exams, ensuring that only the most meritorious candidates enter the administration."
He further stated, "In the past, fascist governments exploited this valuable state resource to suppress people and conceal their wrongdoings."
Highlighting the importance of proper utilization, he added, "If we can engage DCs effectively in state service, law and order improvement, land management, and enhancing the healthcare system, the country can achieve significant progress. I believe they have the mindset to contribute positively."
