Public Gathering at Shaheed Minar to Honor Language Martyrs

On the occasion of International Mother Language Day and Shaheed Dibosh (Martyrs' Day), people from all walks of life have gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar to pay tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement. Carrying flowers, individuals and representatives from various organizations have come to show their respects. Children, accompanied by their parents, are also participating in the tribute.

At 12:40 am on Friday (February 21), the Dhaka University Palashi Mor entrance was opened to the public. Soon after, thousands of people began streaming in to pay their respects.

Earlier, the President and Chief Adviser led the tribute, followed by Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed and judges from the Appellate Division and Judiciary. Next, members of the interim government paid their respects.

Diplomats, ambassadors, and high commissioners from different countries also laid floral wreaths at the Shaheed Minar, followed by the Chief Election Commissioner and other election commissioners.

Representatives of the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force honoured the martyrs with floral tributes. Later, top officials, including the Inspector General of Police (IGP), DMP Commissioner, and heads of Ansar, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), and National Security Intelligence (NSI), also placed wreaths.

The Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Professor Dr Niaz Ahmed Khan, along with the university administration and members of the Amar Ekushey Celebration Committee, paid their respects. Faculty members, including the Vice-Chancellors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) and the National University, also joined in the tribute.

Following the official tributes, political parties, organizations, and the general public continue to offer flowers, remembering the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Bengali language.
