The National Citizen Party (NCP) and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) are holding rallies in Dhaka today, Sunday, August 3, as part of their programs to mark the one-year anniversary of the July mass uprising.
According to party sources, Chhatra Dal will hold a "student rally" at Shahbagh intersection, while the NCP will rally at the Central Shaheed Minar to demand the "July Proclamation and Charter."
The NCP is set to announce its "National Manifesto" at its rally, which follows nationwide marches. The event is scheduled to run from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Meanwhile, Chhatra Dal's rally at Shahbagh to commemorate the first anniversary of the mass uprising, sorrow, and victory will take place from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Additionally, the four-day 'July Jagoron' cultural festival, organized by the Saimum Shilpagosthi group, will continue with its third day of programming from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
In anticipation of these three events, law enforcement agencies have implemented strict security measures. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has imposed traffic restrictions on several key city streets, with diversions in place and public transport movement also being controlled.
Chhatra Dal activists have made extensive preparations for their rally, forming approximately 90 organizational teams.
Activists from all districts and metropolitan areas are expected to attend.
The party's acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, will address the rally virtually from London.
Family members of those martyred and individuals injured in the July mass uprising are also expected to participate.
The student organization has issued an advance apology for any potential traffic congestion.
Chhatra Dal has also issued six special directives to its activists.
These include a ban on bringing banners, festoons, or placards to the rally. Units are required to stay for the entire duration of the event.
They must assist emergency vehicles, including ambulances, traveling between Katabon intersection, Aziz Super Market, the alley next to PG Hospital, and Hotel InterContinental.
Additionally, no vehicle carrying Chhatra Dal activists can enter the Dhaka University area, and activists are forbidden from arriving with personal shows of force or processions.
Finally, units must ensure their designated area is cleaned after the rally concludes.
At a press conference on Saturday, NCP convener Nahid apologized in advance for any inconvenience to Dhaka residents.
He noted that the rallies coincide with the HSC examinations, and with two major political events and exams taking place, traffic congestion is likely.
