National Jute Day falls on Thursday, March 6. Considering the historical significance of jute in Bangladesh’s independence and Liberation War, the government declared in 2016 that this day would be observed annually at the national level. Since 2017, the day has been celebrated every year through various programs.

The Ministry of Textiles and Jute, which organizes the event, stated that despite the rise in synthetic fiber (polyethylene) usage over time, the global demand for environmentally friendly jute and jute-based products has increased significantly in the era of sustainable development.

In this context, National Jute Day is celebrated nationwide with great enthusiasm, involving jute farmers, producers of jute products, entrepreneurs of diversified jute goods, and users of jute-based items to promote and expand the market for jute products.

To mark this year’s celebration, a discussion session, a five-day exhibition on diversified jute products, and a fifteen-day handloom fair have been organized.

Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Adviser to the Ministry of Textiles and Jute and the Ministry of Commerce, will be the chief guest at today’s inauguration ceremony. The event will take place at the Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) conference hall in Manipuripara, Tejgaon.

Additionally, the ministry has undertaken various programs across the country to commemorate the day.
