On the second day of the BIMSTEC Summit, the foreign ministers' meeting began at the Shangri-La Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand. Representing Bangladesh in the meeting is Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain.
The session, which commenced on Thursday morning, saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on maritime transport cooperation among BIMSTEC member states. This agreement aims to strengthen regional trade and economic ties by enhancing commercial shipping and maritime connectivity. Touhid Hossain signed the MoU on behalf of Bangladesh.
The sixth BIMSTEC Summit, bringing together the seven-nation alliance from South Asia, is currently taking place in Bangkok. On Wednesday, April 2, the 25th meeting of the BIMSTEC Foreign Secretaries was held, where discussions covered trade, investment, development, climate change, security, agriculture, technology, and communication.
Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor is scheduled to be in Thailand from April 3 to 4 for the summit, accompanied by Foreign Affairs Advisor Md Touhid Hossain and Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin.
Later today, at 3 pm Bangkok time, the Chief Advisor will deliver a speech at the BIMSTEC Youth Generation Forum Conference. Tomorrow, Professor Yunus will officially participate in the BIMSTEC Summit.
During his visit, the Chief Advisor is set to hold bilateral meetings with leaders from BIMSTEC member states, including India. He will also attend two MoU signing ceremonies during the summit.
In a significant development, a long-anticipated bilateral meeting between Bangladesh’s interim government Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take place.
This key meeting is scheduled for Friday, April 4, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok. It is expected to begin at 3:45 pm Bangkok time.
