Dr Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of Bangladesh’s interim government, has arrived in Thailand to attend the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) Summit. This afternoon, he will deliver a keynote address at the "Young Gen Forum: Where the Future Meets."
The summit is scheduled for 3:30 pm local time on Thursday, April 3. Dr Yunus's speech will focus on "Future-Ready BIMSTEC: The Role of Youth in Advancing Regional Cooperation." The information was confirmed by his Deputy Press Secretary, Abul Kalam Azad Mazumdar.
Dr Yunus arrived in Bangkok at noon local time, where he was received by Thailand's Minister Jiraporn Sindhuprai. Earlier, he departed Dhaka at 8:55 am on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting and Key Developments
Earlier today, ministerial discussions among BIMSTEC nations commenced in Thailand. Bangladesh's Foreign Affairs Adviser, Touhid Hossain, participated in these discussions. A Maritime Transportation Cooperation Agreement was signed, with foreign ministers from all seven member states formalizing the deal.
If all goes as planned, the Chief Adviser will address the BIMSTEC Youth Generation Forum at 3:00 pm Bangkok time. Tomorrow, Professor Yunus will participate in the BIMSTEC Summit's main sessions.
Bilateral Meetings and MoU Signings
During his visit, Dr Yunus will hold bilateral meetings with leaders of BIMSTEC member states, including India. He will also attend the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) as part of the summit's agenda.
Dr Yunus to Hold Bilateral Talks with Indian PM Narendra Modi
Ending all speculation, it has been confirmed that Bangladesh's Chief Adviser, Dr Muhammad Yunus, will meet with Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, for a bilateral discussion.
This crucial meeting is scheduled to take place on Friday, April 4, at 3:45 pm local time, on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok.
Additionally, on the third day of the summit, Bangladesh formally assumed the BIMSTEC Chairmanship for the next two years.
