The Vice Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr Ali Riaz, has stated that the commission's primary objective is to develop a national charter that reflects the collective will of all political stakeholders. This charter is intended to serve as a roadmap for shaping Bangladesh's democratic future.

Speaking ahead of a meeting between the Commission and the newly formed Bangladesh A-Am Janata Party at the Parliament complex on Thursday (April 24), Dr Riaz noted that the absence of democratic governance over the past 53 years has paved the way for authoritarian and fascist regimes.

"We all aspire to build a democratic state. Once democracy is firmly established, fascist forces will no longer be able to take root, and people will no longer need to sacrifice their lives in the struggle for democratic rights," he said.

He emphasized that students, the general public, political parties, and all democracy-loving citizens have come together over the past 16 years to resist authoritarianism and advocate for democratic reforms.

The Bangladesh A-Am Janata Party was officially launched on April 17, under the leadership of former Destiny Group Managing Director Mohammad Rafiqul Amin. During the launch, Rafiqul Amin announced a nine-point program and unveiled the party's manifesto.

Fatima Tasnim, who resigned from the Gano Adhikar Parishad, has been appointed the party's member secretary. The party has also announced a 297-member central committee.
