Chief Advisor's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam announced that no schedule has been set yet for a meeting between the Chief Advisor, Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who is currently visiting the UK, and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
This has cast uncertainty over a potential meeting between the Chief Advisor and Starmer during his London visit.
The press secretary provided this information during a press conference in London on Tuesday (June 10), in response to journalists' questions.
At the press conference, the press secretary was asked if a meeting between the British Prime Minister and the Chief Advisor would take place, and if so, when.
In response, Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, "What we're learning is that he [Keir Starmer] is probably in Canada, visiting Canada.
A British parliamentary MP came today and informed us that he [Keir Starmer] is in Canada. Even so, they are trying.
If the time and schedule match, a meeting between the Chief Advisor and the UK Prime Minister may take place."
Earlier, the Chief Advisor landed at Heathrow Airport at 7:00 AM local time in London on June 10 for a four-day state visit. From the airport, he went directly to the Dorchester Hotel in London.
Shafiqul Alam stated that pre-scheduled meetings took place at the Dorchester Hotel at 12:00 PM between the Chief Advisor and Wouter van Wersch, Executive Vice President of European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, and at 12:30 PM with Charles Wylie, Executive Vice President of Scotland-based Menzies Aviation.
Subsequently, at 2:00 PM, the Chief Advisor met with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group, including British MPs of Bangladeshi origin Rupa Huq and Apsana Begum.
During the meeting, Professor Muhammad Yunus answered various questions regarding Bangladesh. Later in the afternoon, the Chief Advisor also met with Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland.
