The Amar Ekushey Book Fair, organized by the Bangla Academy, will not be held in December as previously scheduled.
This decision was announced on Sunday (September 28) in a notice signed by Professor Mohammad Azam, the Director General of Bangla Academy.
The notice states that a decision was made by the Ministry of Home Affairs on September 21, which mandated that the Amar Ekushey Book Fair must be arranged after the upcoming National Parliamentary Election.
In light of this, and following discussions with the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association (BPBSA) and other related parties, the previously announced date for the book fair has been postponed.
Professor Mohammad Azam, Director General of Bangla Academy, told the media, "The decision to hold the Book Fair in December was made after discussions with the Bangladesh Publishers and Booksellers Association and all relevant parties.
Now, due to the decision from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the December date for the fair has been postponed. The new schedule will be determined after further consultation with all relevant stakeholders."
The 2026 Amar Ekushey Book Fair was previously scheduled to run from December 17 of this year through January 17, 2026.
