The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has issued a warning regarding a fragmented video of DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjad Ali, which has been artificially modified with a synthesized voice and is being circulated as a false and misleading reel by a group on a Facebook page named 'Abar 71' (Again '71).
The DMP has requested the public not to be misled by those who are deliberately creating and disseminating such heinous and fabricated videos using social media.
This was stated in a release sent late Wednesday night (November 12) by Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner (Media and Public Relations) of the DMP.
The statement further reads that the Dhaka Metropolitan Police has taken a firm stance against those responsible for recent crude bomb explosions and vehicle arson in various parts of the capital, carried out under the guise of "lockdown."
The DMP believes that a conspiratorial group is creating and spreading such distorted videos as part of a despicable attempt to unnecessarily confuse the public about the police's measures to protect citizen lives and property and maintain law and order.
The DMP confirmed that strict legal action will be taken against those involved in these vile smear campaigns. Netizens are once again urged to verify the authenticity of any information, photo, audio, or video before sharing it on social media.
