The United Kingdom and Qatar have jointly announced $11.2 million in aid to strengthen humanitarian assistance and environmental protection for the more than 647,000 Rohingya and local communities residing in Cox's Bazar.
This information was shared in a statement from the British High Commission in Dhaka on Sunday (December 7).
The statement detailed that this joint assistance will be used to supply Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) to vulnerable Rohingya families living in the camps.
The goal is to improve their standard of living and reduce environmental damage in the refugee camps and surrounding areas.
Quoting both countries, the statement further said, "We are jointly committed to building safer, healthier, and more sustainable communities."
The supply of LPG is expected to reduce reliance on firewood, which has been a major cause of extensive deforestation in the surrounding areas over the past few years.
Since the arrival of the Rohingya from Myanmar in 2017, Cox's Bazar has remained home to one of the world's largest displaced populations.
