The swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected members of the 13th National Parliament is officially underway. Lawmakers from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were the first to be sworn in this morning.
The ceremony commenced at 10:00 AM in the Oath Room of the National Parliament Building. Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) A.M.M. Nasir Uddin administered the oath of office to the members of the majority party.
Highlights of the Morning
Arrival: From 9:00 AM, vehicles carrying the newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) began arriving at the Parliament gates under tight security.
Protocol: Following parliamentary tradition, the members of the majority party (BNP) were the first to take their oaths.
The Mandate: This group represents the core of the 209 seats won by the BNP in the February 12 elections.
This ceremony marks the first formal step in the transition to the new government. Following the completion of the oaths for all members—including those from the opposition and independent candidates—the focus will shift to the South Plaza this afternoon.
There, Tarique Rahman is scheduled to be sworn in as Prime Minister at 4:00 PM by President Mohammed Shahabuddin.
