Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed law enforcement agencies to take stricter action to halt the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic in order to control environmental pollution.

The directive was issued on Wednesday morning (September 9) during a review meeting on environmental pollution control chaired by the Prime Minister at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The meeting discussed increasing the use of eco-friendly block bricks, controlling air, water, soil, and noise pollution, and improving waste management.

Additionally, the implementation progress of various government initiatives aimed at controlling environmental pollution was reviewed, and future actions were determined.

The Prime Minister instructed the relevant ministries, divisions, and agencies to properly execute their respective responsibilities in controlling environmental pollution.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Road Transport and Bridges, Railways, and Shipping Sheikh Rabiul Alam; State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam; State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad; and State Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Sheikh Faridul Islam, along with senior officials from related ministries and agencies.

Furthermore, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, and Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Saimum Parvez were present at the meeting.
