The Bangladesh Government Employees’ Rights Realization Solidarity Council has issued an ultimatum to the government demanding the implementation of the 9th Pay Scale.

The organization stated that if visible steps are not taken by March 15, they will announce their next course of action via a press conference on March 28.

This information was shared in a press release on Friday (February 20), signed by the organization's Member Secretary, Md. Mahamudul Hasan, and Chief Coordinator, Md. Wares Ali.

Allegations of Discrimination and Long-standing Neglect
The press release highlighted that the 8th Pay Scale, announced in 2015, created significant disparities for employees in grades 11–20.

Despite various appeals and programs to resolve these inequalities, the council claims the government at the time remained unresponsive.

They further alleged that no previous government had formally sat down for discussions with the organization.

However, the statement did note that two pay scales were announced during the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) tenures in 1991 and 2005.

The organization argued that government employees have been deprived for the past 11 years without a new pay scale.

Coupled with the soaring prices of essential commodities, it has become increasingly difficult for employees to support six-member families.

Status of the Pay Commission
According to the statement, peaceful demonstrations have been held since 2019 to draw the government’s attention.

These demands were subsequently placed before the interim government as well. Consequently, a Pay Commission was formed in 2025, which has since submitted its report.

Despite receiving assurances, the council complained that no effective measures have been taken to implement the new scale.

Citing the prolonged delay and current inflation rates, the council urged the government to implement a non-discriminatory 9th Pay Scale as soon as possible.

Announced Action Programs
Based on the decisions made during the organization's meeting on February 20, the following programs have been scheduled:

Feb 22 – March 5: District and Upazila-level leaders will meet with local Members of Parliament and Ministers to submit memorandums addressed to the Prime Minister.

Concurrent Central Action: Central leaders will meet with Cabinet members to submit similar memorandums to the Prime Minister.

During Ramadan: Representative meetings and organizational programs will be held across all divisional cities.

The press release concluded by reiterating that if no visible progress is made by March 15, a press conference will be held on March 28 (following Eid-ul-Fitr) to announce a more rigorous movement.
