A 5.0-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar in the early hours of Monday, with tremors felt across various parts of Bangladesh, including the port city of Chattogram.

According to the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ), the quake occurred at 1:36 AM (local time) on Monday (May 11). The epicenter was located at a depth of approximately 10 kilometers, positioned at 20.46°N latitude and 93.94°E longitude.

News agency Xinhua, citing the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), reported that the quake's center was situated roughly 11 kilometers from the Sidoktaya area in Myanmar.

While no immediate casualties or significant structural damages were reported, the sudden late-night tremors sparked panic among residents.

Second Tremor in 24 Hours
This incident follows a separate, mild earthquake that rattled northern Bangladesh on Saturday (May 9) at approximately 3:10 PM. While that quake caused no major damage, it led to temporary anxiety across several districts.

There were slight discrepancies in data regarding Saturday's seismic activity:

National Center for Seismology (India): Recorded a magnitude of 4.5.

USGS: Reported a magnitude of 4.4.

European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC): Identified the epicenter near Bilasipara in Assam, India.

Due to the shallow depth of Saturday’s quake, tremors were felt strongly in border regions. Locals in Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Rangpur, Dinajpur, and Mymensingh reported experiencing mild to moderate shaking lasting several seconds.
