The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has launched a nationwide special truck sale program today, Monday (May 11), aimed at stabilizing the prices of essential commodities ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Adha. The initiative is scheduled to continue until May 21.

According to a press release issued by the TCB on Sunday, 720 mobile trucks will be deployed daily across the country to sell edible oil, sugar, and lentils.

Distribution of Trucks
The TCB has outlined the following allocation for its mobile units:

  • Dhaka City and District: 50 trucks
  • Chattogram City and District: 20 trucks
  • Other Divisional Cities and Districts: 15 trucks each

Remaining 56 Districts: 10 trucks each

Scale and Impact
The agency estimates that 400 consumers will be served per truck each day, totaling approximately 2.88 million beneficiaries throughout the campaign. The sales target for this period has been set at 13,939 tonnes of essential goods.

While any general consumer can purchase items from these trucks, the TCB has established individual purchase limits:

  • Edible Oil: Maximum 2 liters
  • Sugar: Maximum 1 kg
  • Lentils: Maximum 2 kg

Prices and Subsidies
The fixed prices for the commodities are as follows:

  • Edible Oil: 130 BDT per liter
  • Sugar: 80 BDT per kg
  • Lentils: 70 BDT per kg

Alongside this open-market initiative, the TCB is continuing its subsidized sales for low-income families holding TCB cards.

For the month of May, the agency plans to distribute approximately 34,848 tonnes of products to 7.2 million cardholding families to ease the financial burden of the festive season.
