Against the backdrop of the ongoing regional crisis in West Asia and the prolonged gridlock in the Strait of Hormuz, Bangladesh has stood by the brotherly nation of Kuwait.

In an effort to strengthen Kuwait's strategic food reserves, Bangladesh has formally handed over a symbolic consignment of food supplies.

On Sunday (May 25), during a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kuwait, Humayun Kabir, the visiting Special Envoy to the Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Advisor of Bangladesh, presented the symbolic consignment to Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.

The government stated that this gesture is part of a larger assistance initiative, under which a total of 240 tonnes of food items from Bangladesh will arrive in Kuwait in phases via multiple flights.

This assistance is expected to play a crucial role in mitigating the pressure on Kuwait's supply chain caused by the current regional situation, particularly the extended closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

During the ceremony, Humayun Kabir also officially delivered a letter from Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed to the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The letter expressed wishes for the peace, security, and well-being of the people of Kuwait, while reaffirming Bangladesh's commitment to further strengthening the long-standing friendly relations between the two nations.

The high-level Bangladeshi delegation visiting Kuwait also included Rashiduzzaman Millat, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Tourism, and the Director General (West Asia) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Major General Syed Tareq Hussain, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to Kuwait, was also present at the event.

During the visit, both sides discussed bilateral relations, the regional situation, humanitarian cooperation, and various matters of mutual interest.

Bangladesh and Kuwait reaffirmed their commitment to further bolstering existing ties based on mutual respect, trust, and friendship.

Furthermore, both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in several promising sectors, including trade, investment, manpower, food security, and civil aviation.

In the current geopolitical reality of West Asia, this goodwill assistance to Kuwait reflects the deep fraternal ties between the two countries and underscores Bangladesh's commitment to standing by a friendly nation during times of crisis.
