18,000 Police Personnel to Secure Capital Ahead of AL's Founding Anniv

More than 18,000 police personnel will be deployed at various strategic points across Dhaka to maintain law and order ahead of the June 23 founding anniversary of the banned Awami League.

Niaz Mehedi, Additional Deputy Commissioner of the DMP’s Media and Public Relations Division, informed the media of the development on Sunday (21 June).

He stated that a comprehensive security plan has been implemented across the capital to prevent any untoward incidents marking the Awami League's founding anniversary.

Special police pickets and checkpoints will be set up at over 200 strategic locations throughout the city. In addition, search operations at all entry points to Dhaka will be intensified.

The police official further noted that alongside regular police forces, specialized DMP units—including the Detective Branch (DB) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit—will remain active.

The Special Branch (SB) and Internal Affairs Division (IAD) will conduct intelligence operations in plainclothes. To handle emergencies, 15 Quick Response Teams (QRT) will be on standby in various areas of the capital.

Furthermore, adequate reserve forces will be stationed at Dhaka's four main control rooms.

Senior police officials, including the DMP Commissioner, will be on the ground to personally supervise the security operations, the official added.
