President Mohammed Shahabuddin has stated that Dhaka University is the bearer of Bangladesh’s glorious history and heritage.

He noted that since its inception, this institution—one of the oldest in the subcontinent—has played a unique role in expanding higher education, cultivating knowledge and science, and driving innovation.

The President made these remarks in a message issued on Tuesday (30 June) ahead of Dhaka University Day, celebrated on Wednesday (1 July).

Extending his heartfelt greetings and warm congratulations to all current and former teachers, students, officials, and employees on the traditional institution's 105th anniversary, the President said that the nation's political, social, and national awakening centered around Dhaka University, eventually culminating in the emergence of an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.

He further highlighted that the students of this university have made outstanding and glorious contributions to all democratic movements of the country, including the historic Language Movement, the long struggle for independence, the nine-month bloody armed Liberation War, the anti-autocracy movement of the nineties, and the mass uprising of 2024.

At the same time, the achievements of this lighthouse of knowledge remain unforgettable in the advancement of higher education, research, humanism, free-thinking, education, literature, and culture.

The institution's contribution to every sphere of public life, including producing skilled human resources, professionals, thinkers, and visionary leadership, is extraordinary.

Against this backdrop, Mohammed Shahabuddin deemed this year's anniversary theme, "Dhaka University in Restoring Democracy and Higher Education," both fitting and relevant for the university, which serves as a symbol of the nation's hopes and aspirations.

He added that the contemporary world is changing rapidly, and Dhaka University, as a pioneer of higher education in the country, must keep pace with global advancements.

Education and research curricula must be modernized and updated.

The President expressed the nation's collective expectation that Dhaka University will continue to maintain its glorious heritage and academic excellence, stand by the people during critical junctures of national life, and contribute positively to the development and progress of the country.
