Parallel to nations across the world, Bangladesh is set to observe International Literacy Day 2026 on Tuesday with due dignity and appropriate events.

The official slogan designated for International Literacy Day 2026 is 'Literacy for people, the planet and prosperity.'

The Bureau of Non-Formal Education functioning under the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education has scheduled various activities for Tuesday to commemorate the occasion.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) formally proclaimed September 8 as International Literacy Day back in 1967, establishing a major turning point in the campaign against mass illiteracy.

This annual observance has played a vital role in elevating worldwide consciousness concerning the significance of literacy while drawing attention to the millions of people who continue to battle illiteracy.
