
President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir underscored the necessity of promptly addressing outstanding bilateral matters between Bangladesh and India via dialogue to consolidate and sustain bilateral ties.
"Mutual trust and confidence between the peoples of the two countries would increase further if matters of mutual interest were resolved through fair and mutually acceptable solutions," he observed.
The head of state conveyed these remarks during a formal courtesy meeting hosted at Bangabhaban on Tuesday morning, where Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi called upon him.
The interaction was subsequently summarized during a media briefing by the President's Press Secretary, Md Sarwar Alam.
During the discussions, the President pressed New Delhi to enact proactive initiatives guaranteeing an equitable distribution of shared water resources, specifically concerning the Ganges and Teesta rivers.
In response, the Indian High Commissioner assured the President that his administration is actively pursuing positive steps regarding the water-sharing issue.
The President affirmed that Dhaka places profound significance on its diplomatic partnership with India, acknowledging it as the nation's closest neighbor as well as a critical commercial and developmental ally.

Throughout the session, the Indian envoy extended formal felicitations to the President on his ascension to the presidency.
High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi emphasized that New Delhi accords paramount importance to its engagement with Bangladesh, reaffirming his government's dedication to broadening cooperative frameworks across bilateral domains and auxiliary sectors.
He stated that his nation remains eager to deepen and elevate bilateral ties upon the foundations of mutual esteem, confidence, and collaboration.
Expressing gratitude for the congratulatory remarks, the President requested the diplomat to forward his sincere regards and warm greetings to the Indian head of state.
"There is immense scope for further expanding cooperation in various fields, including trade, water resources management, technology, connectivity, culture and people-to-people relations between the two countries," the president noted.
He further suggested that both neighboring countries can collaborate more intimately to secure shared peace, progress, and prosperity by harnessing the collective talents and capacities of their citizens.
The Indian envoy voiced optimism that the two nations will sustain their collaborative momentum while soliciting the President's support to successfully fulfill his diplomatic mandate.
The President extended wishes for a fruitful tenure to the High Commissioner, expressing confidence that bilateral relations will grow increasingly productive, constructive, and people-centric during his assignment.
The meeting was attended by high-ranking officials representing the President's Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the High Commission of India.
