Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is scheduled to officially roll out a three-month nationwide special anti-dengue drive on Saturday, placing central emphasis on environmental sanitation and public consciousness to combat the transmission of the vector-borne illness.
The initiative stems directly from executive instructions issued by the Prime Minister during a high-level conference on dengue eradication held at the Secretariat, according to Deputy Press Secretary Hasan Shiplu.
PM Tarique Rahman declared that the upcoming quarter must be treated as a peak vulnerability window for dengue outbreaks, underscoring the necessity of prioritizing community hygiene and public education alongside direct vector eradication protocols.
The head of government noted that mosquito suppression frameworks alone remain insufficient for managing the crisis, highlighting the critical role of heightening civic awareness and maintaining pristine residential surroundings.
He mandated that officials execute synchronized grassroots operations by mobilizing municipal administrations, volunteer associations, and the student body.
Under the operational blueprint, municipal corporations will superintend metropolitan initiatives, deputy commissioners will supervise district-tier execution, and upazila nirbahi officers will coordinate undertakings at the sub-district level.
Active participation in the sanitation and outreach initiatives will involve personnel from the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, scouts, the Bangladesh National Cadet Corps, Girl Guides, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society, alongside secondary and tertiary students.
On a weekly basis every Saturday, these volunteer groups and students will conduct door-to-door visits at residences and institutions to participate in physical cleaning efforts.
Participants will actively locate prospective breeding sites for Aedes mosquitoes while educating citizens on maintaining household and environmental cleanliness.
PM Tarique further instructed authorities to deploy expansive public awareness campaigns across traditional and social media platforms, prioritizing television commercials and regular digital distribution of preventive guidelines.
The strategy session was attended by prominent figures including Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Information and Broadcasting Minister Andalib Rahman Partha, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr MA Muhit, State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Chowdhury, Prime Minister's Health Affairs Special Assistant Dr SM Ziauddin Haider, Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Ghani, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary ABM Abdus Sattar, Prime Minister's Special Assistant Dr Shakirul Islam Khan, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Abdus Salam, and Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, alongside other senior administrative officials.
