Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said, only four to five businessmen control the rice market in the country. As a result they have an understanding. If the businessmen have this kind of understanding then general people of the country fall at the brink of loss.
He said these as the chief guest at a seminar titled ‘Role of Bangladesh Competition Commission for Sustainable and Inclusive Development’ organized by Bangladesh Competition Commission at CIRDAP auditorium in the capital on Saturday.
The Commerce Minister said, after forming our new government the price of rice increased suddenly. Then I along with the Food Minister held meeting with the rice traders. At that time we came to know that four to five businessmen control the whole rice market.
He said, tender process is done in such a way in some places that many cannot take part. Not allowed to participate. This cannot be. Competition has to be created in all sectors for sustainable development of the country.
Tipu Munshi said, general people will not be benefitted if competition is not created in business sector. Businessmen can raise the prices of commodities according to their will if there is no competition. Bangladesh Competition Commission has to increase its activities for this.
