Prices of commodities go up when the month of Ramadan comes. In this year stocks of essential commodities are more than the demand. So there is no reason for price hike of commodities in this Ramadan. Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi has warned saying that no excuse will be tolerated for price hiking during the coming month of Ramadan.

He said this while answering questions to the newsmen after holding a meeting on Ramadan preparations at the conference room of commerce ministry at the secretariat on Thursday.

The minister said, to keep the market under control selling of edible oil, sugar, pulse, chickpea, onion and dates will begin through Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) very soon. We can assume that the prices of commodities will not increase much. Because, we have all types of preparations including stocks. According to our report the stocks of essential commodities are more than the need. But in case of sugar it can increase by one to two taka as production cost of sugar has increased.

Tipu Munshi said, strong monitoring will be done to keep the commodity prices under control during Ramadan. No one will be given chance to increase prices of commodities depending on any type of excuse.

He also mentioned that the government has taken strict stand to stop extortion that take place on roads for commodity transportation throughout the country.
