
The acting chairman of the BNP, Tarique Rahman, has assured that the party will nationalize the jobs of private school teachers if it comes to power, stating that the BNP is in principle agreement with the teachers' demands.
He also promised that the demands of private teachers would be fulfilled according to the state's capacity once the BNP is in government. Concurrently, he sought cooperation and support from teachers in the upcoming general election.
Rahman made this announcement while virtually addressing a teachers' rally organized at the Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka on Tuesday (October 7).
Tarique Rahman said that to truly advance the country, it is necessary to build a knowledge-based state, and the teaching community is the main driving force for establishing such a state.
He added that building the dreamt-of Bangladesh would not be possible if the teaching community is weak.
He further stated that the financial security and social dignity of teachers must be ensured, and the BNP is committed to both these issues.
The acting chairman of the BNP informed that the party is working on a specific and realistic plan for the development of teachers and the quality of education.
He mentioned that to eradicate corruption from society, an anti-corruption revolution must start from educational institutions.
Reiterating the BNP's principle agreement with all the demands of the teachers, Tarique Rahman said that the dreamt-of Bangladesh will never be realized if the dignity of education and teachers is not ensured.
The BNP acting chairman sought the cooperation and support of the teaching community in the upcoming national election.
Thousands of teachers and employees from across the country joined the rally.
The assembly was organized to press for demands including a non-discriminatory education system, setting the retirement age at 65, bringing non-MPO educational institutions under the MPO scheme, and nationalizing the jobs of teachers and staff.
